The English Literature class
was quite fun and I learned a lot about authors that I didn’t even know about
like for example Ellen DeGeneres. I didn’t even know that she was a writer. I
only knew her as a host and in this class I discovered that she writes. Her
writing says a lot of truth. I like her as a writer. Also because she is funny.
In the class we read This Is How We Live and it says a lot of true things about
the use of the things, how some of them aren’t even necessary, and also how technology
is consuming us. Another author that we read was Charlie Fish and his story
about a man who married himself, that was a weird story but it was good.
We
talked about Edgar Allan Poe, which I knew since high school. I had to read his
story The Tell-Tale Heart. I loved that story. Edgar is known for his suspense
so I like that. In the class we read The Fall of the House of Usher. This story
had his suspense and had me wanting to know a little bit more because it’s told
from the perspective of the narrator so we know everything that he is seeing. Also
we read A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner. I never heard about this author
but it was a good story. I liked the way he wrote it. We exactly don’t know
from who is narrated but you can guess is from people on the outside. I had to
read a story called Rules of the Game by Amy Tan. I liked this story because it
had a message on how we have to stood up for ourselves and do what we love.
Also because I learned how the Chinese culture is so about family.
In the class we discussed every
story that we read and everybody was able to express what they were thinking.
We took quizzes, did oral presentations, and had to do essays and exams. I
always like the English courses because is another language and I get to know
new vocabulary. I’m not a pro at English but I get to learn a little bit more
and this course of literature was really helpful for me and a great experience.
